If you’re planning on taking a trip to Togo, chances are you will likely have to obtain a visa beforehand. Luckily, Togo offers visas on arrival to nationals of all countries, except those who are visa-exempt.

This article will detail the visa requirements for Togo, including who needs one, how to apply for it, required documents, and other frequently asked questions.

Who Needs a Togo Visa?

Nearly everyone who wants to travel to Togo has to obtain a Togo visa. The only ones who are exempt are nationals of the following countries:

  • Benin
  • Burkina Faso
  • Cape Verde
  • Côte d’Ivoire
  • The Gambia
  • Ghana
  • Guinea
  • Guinea-Bissau
  • Liberia
  • Mali
  • Niger
  • Nigeria
  • Romania
  • Senegal
  • Sierra Leone
  • South Africa

Additionally, holders of diplomatic and service passports issued by China and Morocco are also exempt from visa requirements.

Nationals of all other countries not mentioned above have to obtain a Togo visa to be allowed entry into the country.

What are the types of Togo Visas?

The main types of visas issued by the Togolese government are:

  • Togo Tourist Visa, issued for single and multiple entries, and for up to 90 days. You can apply for a Togo Tourist Visa if you are traveling for tourism, visit, or other non-business related purposes.
  • Togo Business Visa, issued to foreigners traveling to Togo for business-related purposes of up to 90 days. It can be single- or multiple-entry.
  • Togo Transit Visa, issued to foreigners transiting through the territory of Togo. The transit visa for Togo can be for a single or double-entry (roundtrip).
  • Togo Immigration Visa, for foreigners intending to settle in Togo long-term

What Documents Do I Need for a Togo Visa?

When applying for a Togo visa, you should have several supporting documents such as:

  • Photocopies of the first two pages of your passport.
  • The Togo visa application form.
  • Two recent passport-size pictures, with the following requirements:
    • Dimensions: 4.5 x 3.5cm
    • White background
    • Neutral facial expression
    • Your face and head must be fully visible (headgear only accepted for religious purposes, provided it does not obstruct the face)
  • Proof you have purchased or booked a return flight ticket.
  • Travel insurance for the duration of your stay, or proof you have paid a repatriation deposit.
  • Yellow Fever Certificate or the vaccination notebook.
  • For Togo Tourist Visa: Proof of accommodation in Togo, such as a hotel reservation.
  • For Togo Business Visa: Letter of invitation from the company inviting you in Togo or any documents regarding the relevant assignment which you will take part in.

    • Proof of onward travel,

  • For Togo Immigration Visa:
    • Proof of income, such as in the form of bank statements;
    • a motivational letter;
    • proof of health insurance.

To get a visa for Togo if you are under 18, you also need a parental consent form, signed by both of your parents.

Note: This is not an exhaustive list of requirements, since the required documents may change depending on the specific case and/or the consulate in which you apply.

How Can I Apply for a Togo Visa?

There are two ways through which visa-required foreigners apply for a Togo visa:

  • On arrival, at the port of entry in Togo; or
  • At a Togonese Embassy or Consulate in your country or a neighboring country

See both Togo visa application processes detailed below.

Applying for a Togo Visa On Arrival

Nationals of all countries are eligible for a Togo Visa On Arrival.

However, the Togo Visa On Arrival is only valid for seven days, with the possibility to extend it for up to 90 days once you’re already in Togo.

You can get a Togo Visa On Arrival at the visa-issuing counters at the international airport in Lome or any of the major border crossings. You need to have a Togo visa application form and two passport-size pictures with you and pay a fee of 15,000 CFA or its equivalent in Euro or Dollars. You may also have to show proof of Yellow Fever vaccination, accommodation, and a return flight ticket, as well as any other documents depending on the purpose of your travel.

If you want to stay for longer than 7 days, you can apply to extend your visa at the Foreigners and Passport Service in Toga before your current visa expires. The Togo visa extension is free of charge.

However, many travelers who know they want to stay in Togo for longer than 7 days opt for applying for the visa before they travel at a Togolese Embassy or Consulate because they consider it to be less of a hassle than applying for an extension.

Applying for a Togo Visa before you travel

If you want to stay in Togo for longer than 7 days, you can apply for a visa from a Togolese embassy or consulate before you travel. The exact Togo visa application process changes depending on the specific embassy/consulate in which you apply, but can be summed up as follows:

  • Contact the embassy/consulate or, if possible, visit their website to learn about their opening hours, working days, and any specific requirements.
  • Complete the Togo visa application form
  • Gather the required documents (see the documents below)
  • Pay the Togo visa fee*
  • Submit the documents and application at the embassy or consulate. Some diplomatic offices allow applicants to submit their visa applications through the mail, especially if they live far away.
  • Wait for the visa application to be processed. If the application is approved you will either have to go pick up your passport in person or have it mailed back to you, depending on the way through which you applied.

*The method of paying for the visa fee changes from one consulate to the other. You may have to pay in cash at the time of application or through a bank transfer beforehand.

How to complete the Togo visa application form?

You can download the Togo visa application form from one of the websites of Togo’s diplomatic representations abroad. Some embassies or consulates require you to fill it out beforehand and have it with you when you submit the application.

Depending on the format of the application form file, you may be able to complete it electronically then just print it and sign it. Or, you may have to print it first and fill it out by hand.

The Togo visa application form includes questions that clarify the purpose of your travel to Togo.

You may also be able to pick up the visa application form at the embassy or consulate itself.

How Long Does it Take to Process a Togo Visa?

The processing time for a Togo visa depends on the specific Embassy or Consulate, but you can expect to wait at least between 5 – 10 working days starting from the time they receive your completed application. It may take longer, however, depending on the specific circumstances so you should start the application process at least about a month in advance, especially if you’re going to apply by mail.

How Much are the Togo Visa Fees?

The visa fees for Togo are as follows:

  • For a Togo Visa On Arrival: 15,000 CFA ($25)
  • 30-day single-entry visa: appx. $70 (£55)
  • 90-day single-entry visa: appx. $97 (£75)
  • 30-day multiple-entry visa: appx. $85 (£65)
  • 90-day multiple-entry visa: appx. $110 (£85)

Note: This is an approximate list of Togo visa fees. The fees may differ slightly from one country or currency to the next.

How Long is a Togo Visa Valid For?

The duration of your Togo visa depends on the manner through which you apply. As such:

  • A Togo Visa On Arrival is valid for only up to 7 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days while in Togo
  • A Togo visa obtained from an embassy/consulate is issued for a maximum of 90 days, for single or multiple entries

Can I Extend a Togo Visa?

Yes, you can extend a Togo Visa On Arrival before it expires at the Togo Foreigners and Passport Service offices in Lome.

If you want to extend a 30-day or 90-day visa, then you can apply for an extension at the Directorate General of National Documentation of the Togo Ministry of the Interior.

If you intend to visit Senegal, chances are that you will probably need to apply for a Senegal visa. However, there are certain countries whose nationals are allowed to travel to Senegal for short-term periods without the need for a visa.

Who needs a visa for Senegal?

You need a visa for Senegal unless you are from a visa-exempt country. Citizens of the following countries can enter Senegal without a visa for up to 90 days:

A European Union countryBeninBrazilBurkina FasoCanada
Cape VerdeThe Central African RepublicChadChinaCongo DR
Côte d’IvoireDjiboutiThe GambiaGhanaGuinea

TunisiaUnited StatesVatican City

Note: If you are from one of the above-mentioned countries, but you intend to stay in Senegal for longer than 90 days, then you do have to apply for a Senegal visa.

Other Senegal visa exemptions

In addition, even if you are not from one of the countries above, you may still be exempt from a Senegal visa for short-term stays if you fall under one of the following categories:

  • You have a Laissez-Passer issued by the United Nations and you are traveling on duty
  • You have a Laissez-Passer issued by the Economic Community of West African States
  • You have a diplomatic passport issued by Turkey
  • You have a diplomatic, service, or special passport issued by:
    • Algeria
    • China
    • Gabon
    • Libya
    • Russia
    • Tanzania
    • Uganda

Who is eligible for a Senegal Visa On Arrival?

There is conflicting information regarding the process of obtaining a visa for Senegal. While some sources claim nearly everyone who is not exempt from Senegal visa requirements can obtain a Senegalese Visa On Arrival, most of the websites of Senegal diplomatic missions advise foreigners to obtain a visa before they travel. As such, the safest way to get a Senegal Visa seems the nearest Senegal diplomatic mission to inquire about entry requirements.

What are the Senegal Visa Requirements?

When you apply for a Senegal visa, you must submit documents which support your applications, such as:

  • Two copies of the Senegal Visa Application Form
  • Your passport, which must be valid for at least another six months and have at least two blank pages
  • Photocopies of the personal information page of your passport and previous visas
  • Two passport-size pictures
  • Proof of accommodation in Senegal, such as a hotel reservation or an invitation letter if you are staying with a host
  • Photocopy of your airline ticket or proof of reservation of the ticket
  • Proof of sufficient financial funds
  • For Senegal Business Visa: Letter of invitation or a Letter of Sponsorship from the Senegal company
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination (although not required by all embassies or consulates it is advisable to get vaccinated for Yellow Fever)

The documents you submit have to be either in English or in French.

How to get a Senegal Visa?

According to Senegal diplomatic missions, you must obtain a Senegal visa from one of the Senegal embassies or consulates abroad. The process changes depending on the country, but an outline of the application process is as follows:

  • Contact the Senegal embassy or consulate to make an appointment and inquire about specific requirements
  • Collect the required documents
  • Submit the application and documents. You may have to submit the application and documents in person or submit them through the post.
  • Wait for the visa to be processed

If the visa is approved, you can use it to enter the country for the time that the visa is issued for.

How long does it take to process a Senegal visa?

Again, the application processing time for a Senegal visa changes depending on the country. While some diplomatic missions state they can process a visa for 2 -3 days, others may take a week or longer. It is always a good idea to start the visa application process early, however, especially if there is a lack of information available.

You may have to apply for a Senegal visa by mail, which means the time it will take to deliver your application and to receive the visa if approved will also factor into the processing time.

What is the duration of a Senegal visa?

A visa for Senegal is issued for a maximum of 90 days, but may it be issued for less at the discretion of the visa-issuing authorities.

This is also the number of days you are allowed to stay in Senegal without a visa if you are from a visa-exempted country.

How Can I Travel to Senegal if I Don’t Need a Visa?

Even if you don’t need a visa for Senegal, you must still be able to show the immigration officers at the point of entry:

  • Your valid passport, which has at least one blank page for the entry stamp
  • Your proof of accommodation
  • Return-flight air ticket or a ticket for onward travel
  • Letter of invitation or sponsorship, if applicable
  • Proof of Yellow Fever Vaccination

Is Senegal Safe to Visit?

Senegal does not pose any major risks to travelers. There are no political conflicts, and there have not been any recent terrorist attacks.

However, street crime such as muggings and robberies does tend to happen, especially in urban areas and areas which are more frequented by tourist, so you should be cautious. But street crime is not at a level which is higher than in most other countries.

What Should I See While I’m In Senegal?

If you find yourself in Senegal, whether for business or simply tourism purposes, you must make sure to visit these popular landmarks:

  • The Rebta Lake, also known as the Pink Lake, is about one hour north of Dakar and gets its characteristic pinkish color from the high amount of salt content and bacteria.
  • Dakar. If you visit Senegal, you must naturally explore its capital city, which is known for its vibrancy and culture. Especially visit its markets and the Museum of African Arts.
  • Goree Island. One of the most popular tourist spots in Senegal is Goree Island, near Dakar. The island was once a slave-trading center and holds significant historic importance.
  • Petite Cote and Cap Skirring. If you want to lounge on a beach, then the beautiful Cap Skirring and Petite Cote are places to go.
  • Saloum Delta National Park. This beautiful national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, consisting of 440,000-acres, out of which 150,000 acres is water.
  • Senegal River. Naturally, you should not miss the opportunity to visit the Senegal River, which was once known as “the river of gold” because of the large amounts of gold that it once held.

Citizens of most countries who want to visit Guinea have to obtain a Guinea visa beforehand.

Home to the Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve, beautiful waterfalls, countless beaches, and unexplored rainforests, it attracts nature lovers and adventure seekers.

Although most foreigners, whether traveling for business or tourism, have to apply before a Guinea visa before they travel there, the process is relatively smooth and done entirely online.

What Type of Morocco Visa Should I Apply For?

There are three main types of visas for Morocco:

  • Morocco Tourist Visa.
  • Morocco Transit Visa.
  • Long-Term Morocco Visa.

Morocco Tourist Visa

The short-term Morocco Visa, also known as a Morocco Tourist Visa, is issued to visa-required nationals who want to enter Morocco as a tourist or for other short-term purposes, including, but not limited to:

  • Business
  • Personal visit
  • Attending a cultural or academic event, such as a conference
  • For sports events
  • For journalism

Tourist visas for Morocco can be issued for single or multiple entries and allow a maximum stay in Morocco for up to 90 days.

Not everyone needs to apply for a tourist visa before they travel to Morocco, however, as several countries are allowed visa-free entrance.

Morocco Transit Visa

You need a Morocco Transit Visa if:

  • You will transit through the territory of Morocco on your way to a third country
  • You typically need a Morocco visa

The Morocco Transit Visa can be issued for one or two transits, allowing you to stay in Morocco for no more than 72 hours.

Morocco Long-Term Visa

The long-term visa for Morocco is issued to foreigners who want to enter Morocco for long-term purposes, such as for work or joining family members.

Just like the tourist visa, it is also technically valid for only three months. However, this type of visa allows the holder to apply for a Residency Card (Carte de Séjour) from the competent services of the Moroccan General Directorate of National Security. You cannot apply for residency if you enter on a Morocco Tourist Visa.

The Morocco long-term visa is divided into several subtypes, such as:

  • Morocco Work Visa, issued to foreigners who find a job in Morocco (a work permit is also needed)
  • Morocco Student Visa, issued to foreigners who want to pursue their studies in a Moroccan educational institution
  • Morocco Visa for Family Reunification, issued to foreigners wanting to join a family member who is living in Morocco

*After you enter Morocco on a long-term visa, you have to apply for a Residence Card (Carte de Sejour) from the local Prefecture de Police within three months.

When you apply for a Morocco visa, you need to have these documents to support your application. The documents you submit serve to convince the Moroccan visa-issuing authorities that you are fit to receive a visa.

The Morocco visa requirements differ based on the reason you are traveling for as well as your country and the duration of your stay.

Morocco Visa Application Form

The first document you need is a Morocco Visa Application Form. You can download the form online from the website of the Moroccan embassy or consulate in which you apply, or you can get it in person at the embassy/consulate.

The application form has around 30 questions, including:

  • Your name, sex, and age
  • Your nationality and place of residence
  • Passport information
  • Your profession
  • The details of your travel
  • Whether you have had any previous visas for Morocco
  • Contact information

You must complete the application form completely and truthfully, then sign it before enclosing it with the other documents.

Passport

The most crucial of the Morocco visa requirements is a valid passport. You should submit your original passport with your other documents because that’s where the Moroccan authorities will affix your visa. Your passport must be valid for at least another six months and have 1-2 blank visa pages.

Also, submit clear photocopies of your passport’s relevant pages, such as the personal information page, the expiry and issue dates, and any previous visas.

Passport-size pictures

You also need about four recent pictures of yourself. The Morocco visa photo requirements are as follows:

  • Size: 35mm x 45mm
  • Background: Light grey or light blue
  • Colored
  • You must have a neutral facial expression, staring ahead
  • Do not wear glasses
  • Do not wear headgear, unless it is for religious purposes (even so, make sure it does not cover your facial features)
  • The pictures must be of high quality, meaning no glare, no under- or over-exposure, no blurriness and no editing
  • The pictures must be printed in good quality photo paper

Return flight ticket

Another Morocco visa requirement is the return flight ticket. You must have a booked or paid flight ticket, scheduled within 90 days (or for however long your visa is issued for).

This is to be able to prove to the visa-issuing authorities that you intend to return to your country afterward.

Or, alternatively, if you’re not going to return to your country of residence, include a flight ticket for onward travel.

Proof of accommodation

You must also include proof of accommodation in Morocco. This can be a hotel reservation or another type of tourist accommodation.

Or, if you’re going to stay with a host, include a notarized letter of invitation from them.

Proof of sufficient financial means

You may be required to submit proof you have sufficient financial means to cover the duration of your stay, for example in the form of bank statements.

Travel health insurance

Anyone who travels to Morocco is advised to obtain travel insurance. This being said, not every Moroccan representative office will require that you submit proof of travel health insurance for Morocco along with your visa application, but they might. Morocco is just one of the countries in the world that require travelers to obtain travel insurance as a part of their visa application.

Proof of paid Morocco visa fee

Depending on where you’re applying, the method of payment for a Moroccan visa also changes. You may be required to pay in cash at the embassy or consulate, or through a bank transfer beforehand, in which case, you will need the payment receipt.

The visa fees for Morocco are as follows:

  • For a single entry (up to 90 days): DH220 (appx. $23)
  • For two entries (up to 90 days): DH330 (appx. $34)
  • Transit visa: DH170 (appx. $18)

Morocco Visa Document Guidelines

You will have to legalize several of your documents, especially if you are applying for a long-term visa and residence card. The documents you have to legalize include civil status documents, academic qualifications and diplomas, the certificate of police clearance, and even your passport in some cases.

You can legalize the documents either by an Apostille Stamp (if you’re from a country included in the Apostille Convention) or at a Moroccan Consulate or Embassy.

Additionally, you will most likely have to translate several of your documents, either in Arabic, English or French. Consult the Moroccan embassy/consulate for more specific language requirements.

How to Apply for a Morocco Visa?

You must apply for a Morocco visa at a Moroccan diplomatic mission in your country. The exact application process changes depending on your country and the Moroccan representative office. However, it can be summed up as follows:

  1. Make an appointment at the Morocco consulate or embassy.
  2. Complete the Morocco visa application form.
  3. Gather the required documents.
  4. Submit them at the Moroccan embassy or consulate.
  5. Pay the visa fee.
  6. Wait for the Morocco visa to be processed.
  7. Get the visa.

Make an appointment

Depending on where you’re applying from, you may be able to make an appointment online, but you may also have to appear in person or make a call.

Most representative offices will not accept your application if you do not have an appointment.

Some Moroccan embassies, however, have outsourced visa applications to private agencies. If that is the case, you may have to contact the relevant visa application agency to start the process of obtaining a Morocco visa.

Complete the Morocco Visa Application Form

You can get an application form for the Morocco Visa at the embassy or consulate in which you apply or you can download it through their website.

You must complete the Morocco Visa Application Form completely and truthfully, and then sign it. You may also have to attach a picture of yourself if it so indicates.

Gather the required documents

Along with the application form, you must submit several other documents that support your visa application.

Submit the application

Once you have all the required documents, you have to submit them at the Moroccan embassy or consulate. In most cases, you have to submit them yourself, in-person.

However, depending on the country and the specific situation, you may be able to submit your application through a legal representative or by mail. If you apply by mail, you also have to include a prepaid, self-addressed special delivery envelope so they can return your passport.

You have to ask the office in which you’re applying for more details regarding visa application submission.

Pay the Morocco visa fee

At the time of application, you also have to pay a visa processing fee. The Morocco visa fees are as follows:

  • For a single entry (up to 90 days): DH220 (appx. $23)
  • For two entries (up to 90 days): DH330 (appx. $34)
  • Transit visa: DH170 (appx. $18)

Wait for the Morocco visa to be processed

In most cases, the Morocco visa processing time is two weeks (10 business days), but it may take longer depending on a case-to-case basis. For example, if you’re missing any documents or it is a busy time of year, the processing time could be longer.

Additionally, if you have a non-ordinary travel document, your visa could take longer to be processed, so take that into account.

Receive the Morocco visa

If your application is approved, the visa-issuing authorities will affix a Morocco visa sticker into your passport, allowing you to travel to Morocco.

If you applied in person, you have to go pick up your passport. If you applied by mail, the Moroccan embassy/consulate will mail the passport back to you.

How to Apply for a Morocco Visa if There is no Moroccan Diplomatic Representation in Your Country?

If there is no Moroccan embassy or consulate where you live, then you must see if the Moroccan government has outsourced visa submissions to another diplomatic authority in your country or to a visa application agency.

If this also does not apply, then you may have to apply directly to the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rabat.

In this case, you can apply via mail, and if your visa is approved, you’d be able to receive it at the airport.

Can I Apply for a Morocco Visa On Arrival?

No, you cannot. Morocco does not have a Visa On Arrival available. All visas for Morocco have to be obtained before you travel unless you are exempt from visa requirements. Only visa-exempt nationals are eligible to travel without priorly obtaining the Morocco visa.

How Long is a Morocco Visa Valid For?

A visa for Morocco is valid for a maximum of 90 days and can be issued for a single entry or multiple entries.

Both the Morocco Tourist Visa as well as a long-term visa have the same validity, but the latter allows the holder to apply for a Residence Card after they enter Morocco, while the tourist visa does not. If you do not extend your stay and get a Residence Card, then you have to leave after three months, even if you have a long-term visa.

Can I Extend a Morocco Visa?

If you have a Morocco Tourist Visa which you would like to extend beyond 90 days, you must request a Visa Extension at the nearest Police Precinct in Morocco.

Applying for a Morocco Visa in India

In order to apply for a Morocco visa from India, you have to visit a Morocco Visa Application and Information Center (MVAIC), which operates under the Cox & Kings Global Services (CKGS). The Morocco embassy in India has outsourced visa submissions to CKGS.

There are MVAIC centers in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa, Cochin, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.

If you need more information, you can contact the Morocco Embassy in New Dehli or the Moroccan Honorary Consulate in Mumbai.

Applying for a Morocco Visa From the UK

If you are a UK national living in the UK, then you do not need a visa to enter Morocco.

However, if you are living in the UK as a resident, and you are a national of a visa-required country, then you must apply for a Morocco visa at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in London.

If you are in the UK on a tourist visa, you cannot apply at the consulate of Morocco in London. You must apply for a visa from your country of legal residence.

What are the Morocco Visa Requirements for US Citizens?

As a US citizen, if you want to travel to Morocco for tourism or other short-term purposes, you are not subject to any visa requirements at all. US citizens, along with several others, are exempt from Morocco visas and can visit the country with just their passport and a return flight ticket for up to 90 days.

However, if you want to travel for longer than 90 days, such as for work or family reunion, then you must get a long-stay visa at one of the Moroccan diplomatic missions in the US.

Applying for a Morocco Visa From the USA

If you are a legal resident of the US, and you are a national of a visa-required country, then you may apply for a Morocco visa at the Morocco Embassy in Washington, D.C. or the Morocco Consulate-General in New York.

If you want to visit Ethiopia, you’ll most likely have to obtain an Ethiopia visa beforehand.

Located in the Horn of Africa, and divided by the Great Rift Valley, Ethiopia is one of the oldest countries in the world, believed to be the origin of humankind. There are archeological sites, dating back as far as three million years ago. Other than that, Ethiopia is an incredibly scenic country, with breathtaking mountainous areas, deserts, national parks, rivers, and waterfalls. The cuisine, culture, and festivals of Ethiopia are also truly something to experience.

To travel to Ethiopia, citizens of most countries in the world will have to obtain a visa. However, the Ethiopian government has made the process of obtaining an Ethiopia visa smoother and easier with the introduction of the Ethiopia eVisa and the Visa On Arrival.

Who needs an Ethiopia Visa?

Everyone, other than nationals from the countries listed below, has to apply for an Ethiopia Visa before they travel:

  • Djibouti (visa not required for a stay of up to three months)
  • Kenya (visa not required for a stay of up to one year)

Ethiopia Visa exemptions for holders of non-ordinary passports

If you have a diplomatic or service passport issued by any country other than Pakistan or Somalia, then you may enter Ethiopia without a visa for stays of up to 3 months.

Do I need an Ethiopia Transit Visa?

No, if you are going to transit at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, you do not need to apply for an Ethiopia Transit Visa, as long as you do not leave the transit area of the airport.

If you do want to leave the airport and enter the country, you can apply for an Ethiopia Visa On Arrival at the visa-issuing counters of the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Who can get an Ethiopia Visa On Arrival?

If you are a national or have a residence permit from one of the following counties, you are eligible for an Ethiopia Visa On Arrival:

However, although you may eligible for a Visa On Arrival, the Ethiopian government still advises foreigners to apply for an Ethiopia Visa online, so as to have a smoother process. If applying online, you already know whether you can enter Ethiopia or not before you travel. When you apply on arrival, if your application is rejected, you will have to turn back after you’ve already made reservations in a hotel in Ethiopia and paid for the airline ticket.

What Are the Types of Ethiopia Visas That I Can Apply for?

The two main types of visas that the Ethiopian government issues are:

  • Ethiopia Tourist Visas
  • Ethiopia Business Visas

Ethiopia Tourist Visas

Ethiopia Tourist Visas are issued to foreign nationals traveling to Ethiopia for tourism or other non-business related purposes. They can be issued either at an embassy or consulate of Ethiopia, online or on arrival, depending on your nationality.

Ethiopia Business Visa

The Ethiopia Business Visa, as the name suggests, is issued for business-related purposes, and can be further sub-categorized into:

  • Ethiopia Conference Visa (CV), issued to foreigners traveling to attend an international conference, seminar, or workshop in Ethiopia, which is organized by a Ministry, governmental authority, private organization, or educational institution.
  • Ethiopia Foreign Business Firm Employment Visa (WV), which is issued to foreigners who will be employed in Ethiopia by a foreign-operated company.

The documents you submit electronically can be on the following formats: JPEG, JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF or PDF, and with a maximum size of 2MB. Your picture and the scanned picture of the passport are not supported in PDF format.

According to the website of Ethiopia’s Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs, you can also attach photographs of your passport and picture, as long as they are clearly legible and on the supported formats.

Note: This is not an exhaustive list of the required documents. If you’re applying online, the exact documents you need will be listed when you have to attach them. If you’re going to apply at an Ethiopian embassy or on arrival, you should contact them beforehand to learn about the exact requirements.

Ethiopia Visa Application Process

There are three ways through which you can get an Ethiopia Visa: online, on arrival, and at an Ethiopian embassy or consulate. See them detailed below.

Applying for an Ethiopian Visa online (Ethiopia eVisa)

You can apply for an Ethiopia visa online through this website. You must:

  1. Select the type of visa you need
  2. Enter details of your trip (arrival, departure, and accommodation)
  3. Enter your personal information (name, age, nationality, profession, address, etc)
  4. Attach the supporting documents (scanned picture of yourself, scanned copy of your passport and electronic copies of the documents related to your purpose of travel.)
  5. Make the Ethiopia Visa fee payment
  6. Wait for the eVisa to be processed. The Ethiopia eVisa is usually processed within 3 days.
  7. If the Ethiopia eVisa is approved, you will receive the confirmation on your email address.

Please note: The website linked above is the only official Ethiopian visa application service of the Ethiopian Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs. Other websites that look similar and have similar names are not endorsed by the Ethiopian government and are not authorized to issue a visa.

Who can get an Ethiopia Visa Online (Ethiopia eVisa)?

Citizens of all countries are eligible to apply for an Ethiopia eVisa, as long as they intend to stay for up to 90 days and enter the country only once. Ethiopia eVisas are only issued for short-term stays such as tourism or business. Applicants under 18 years of age cannot apply for an Ethiopia Business Visa.

You cannot apply for a long-term, multiple-entry Ethiopia visa through the online system.

Ethiopia eVisa fees

Before your eVisa application is processed, you have to make the visa fee payment. The Ethiopia eVisa fees are:

  • Single-entry, 30-day visa: $52
  • Single-entry, 90-day visa: $72

You can pay online through your credit/debit card. If you are from an African country and cannot pay online, if your visa is approved, you can pay it in cash after you arrive at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Aff Ethiopia visa fees are non-refundable.

Applying for an Ethiopian visa at an Ethiopian Embassy

You have to apply for an Ethiopia visa at an Ethiopian Embassy if:

  • You will arrive through an entry point other than the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (applies to all countries, except Djibouti and Kenya)
  • You need a multiple-entry Ethiopia visa instead of a single-entry one.

Ethiopia eVisas or Visas On Arrival are issued only for single entries and short-term stays, and only if you are entering the country through the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Duration of an Ethiopia Visa

A short-stay visa for Ethiopia is issued for up to 90 days but can be issued for less, and it is a single-entry visa. The number of days you can remain in Ethiopia starts from the day you enter, not from the day the visa is issued.

There seems to be an exception, however, to the Ethiopia Investment Visa, which can be issued for multiple entries and for up to 12 months. Additionally, if you’re entering Ethiopia to work for an Ethiopian governmental institution for a short period of time, the visa can be issued for multiple entries and for up to six months.

Can you extend an Ethiopia Visa?

Yes, you can extend your Ethiopia visa for another 30 days by visiting the office of the Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs located at Addis Ababa.

If you do not extend the visa, but simply overstay, you will be subject to a fine. The fee for overstaying an Ethiopia visa is US$5 per day in addition to a US$50 visa fee for the first 15 days. If you overstay for longer than 15 days, the fee is US$10 per day in addition to the US$50 visa fee.

Ethiopia Visa Fees

The visa fees for an Ethiopia visa change depending on the purpose and duration of your trip.

Ethiopia Tourist Visa:

  • Single-entry, 30-day visa: $52
  • Single-entry, 90-day visa: $72

Ethiopia Business Visa:

  • Single-entry, 30-day visa: The Ethiopia Visa fee cost can range from US$32 to US$52, depending on the inviting company
  • If you’re entering Ethiopia to work for an Ethiopian governmental institution for a short period of time:
    • Single-entry, 30-day visa: US$22
    • Multiple-entry, 90-day visa: US$82
    • Multiple-entry 6-month visa: US$122

Ethiopia Investment Visa:

  • Single-entry, 30-day visa: US$32
  • Multiple-entry, 90-day visa: US$42
  • Multiple-entry 6-month visa: US$62
  • Multiple-entry 12-month visa: US$122

You can pay the fee online, through a credit/debit card, or if you are applying for a Visa On Arrival, you can pay it in cash or through a credit/debit card at the airport.

Moving to Ethiopia

To move to Ethiopia, you will have to get an Ethiopia visa form an Ethiopian embassy or consulate in your country or a neighboring country. In addition to the visa, upon arrival to Ethiopia, you must get a residence permit from the Ministry of Immigration and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MOLSA) within 30 days. If you want to work in Ethiopia, you will have to obtain a work permit.

For further information on long-stay Ethiopia visas, you will have to contact the relevant Ethiopian embassy and consulate.

However, many of the travelers who are eligible for a Visa On Arrival still choose to obtain the Egypt visa before they travel. You can get an Egypt Visa Online before you travel if you are from one of the following countries:

A European Union countryAlbaniaAustraliaCanadaIceland

Applying for an Egypt Visa Online (e-Visa)

You have to apply for an Egypt e-Visa at least seven days before you intend to travel. You must apply through this website, which operates under the Egyptian Ministry of Interior.

  • Enter the traveling information (visa type, arrival and departure dates, etc)
  • Attach the scanned copy of your passport
  • Pay the Egypt eVisa fee through a credit or debit card

The exact application changes depending on which country’s embassy or consulate you have submitted your visa application. However, an outline of the Egypt visa application process is as follows:

  • Complete the Egypt Visa Application Form. You can get the application form at the embassy/consulate offices
  • Gather the required documents
  • Pay the Egypt visa fee*

*Regarding payment of the visa fee, you may have to pay it prior to applying through bank transfer or at the actual visa counter at the embassy/consulate in cash. Check with the Egyptian embassy or consulate for the specific visa fee requirements. See the list of Egypt visa fees below.

The consulate/embassy may also require an interview if they see fit.

Note: You also have to apply for your Egypt visa at an Egyptian embassy or consulate if you are from a visa-exempt country, or you are eligible for the e-Visa or VOA, and you want to stay in Egypt long-term.

Egypt Visa Requirements

When you apply for an Egypt visa, you need several documents to support your application, such as:

  • The Egypt Visa application form (two copies)
  • Two passport-size pictures of yourself (2inch x 2inch, white background, taken recently)
  • Your passport, valid for at least six more months from the date of entry in Egypt and with at least two blank pages

Egypt visa processing time

The processing time for an Egypt visa changes depending on the method of application. If you apply for the Visa On Arrival, you will receive it (or have your application be rejected, as it is) right there.

The Egypt e-Visa is processed in about seven days, which is why it is advisable to apply at least seven days before you intend to travel.

If you’re applying through an embassy or consulate, the processing time changes depending on the specific office. In most cases, it takes at least 10 working days, so make sure to apply well before you intend to travel, but no earlier than three months.

If you apply by mail, also take into consideration the time it will need for the documents to be mailed back and forth.

Duration of an Egypt Visa

The duration of an Egypt visa depends on the number of entries it allows. As such:

  • Egypt Visa On Arrival and e-Visa are valid for 90 days from the date of issue. They’re valid for one single entry and allow you to remain in Egypt for a maximum of 30 days.
  • Single-entry Egypt tourist visas are valid for 6 months and allow you to stay in Egypt for a maximum of 60 days
  • Multiple-entry Egypt tourist visas are valid for 6 months and allow you to stay in Egypt for a maximum of 90 collective days

Can you extend an Egypt Tourist Visa?

You may be able to extend an Egypt tourist visa (short-term visa) for an additional 90 days at the Egypt Passport and Immigration Administration.  You need a copy of your passport, your Egypt visa, and enough money to pay for the processing fee.

Do I need an Egypt Transit Visa?

Whether you need an Egypt Transit visa depends on the duration of your transit. As such:

  • If your transit is less than six hours: You do not need a transit visa, but you are not allowed to leave the airport
  • If your transit is 6 – 48 hours, you may leave the airport and visit the surrounding areas. You must show your valid passport and proof of onward travel.
  • If your transit will be longer than 48 hours, you have to get the relevant visa

Submitting an Egypt Visa application from the UK

As a UK national, you are eligible to apply for an Egypt visa online or get it upon arrival. You can also get an Egypt visa if you apply through one of the consulates of Egypt in the UK.

You can apply online through this website at least seven days before you intend to travel. If you opt for getting the Egypt visa upon arrival, you have to line up at one of the visa-issuing counters at the Egyptian airport before you clear immigration.

If you want to travel to Egypt for long-term purposes, you have to get a visa at the embassy or consulate.

See a more detailed explanation of the application for an Egypt e-Visa or Visa On Arrival above.

Where Can I Submit an Algeria Visa Application?

You must apply for an Algerian visa at the Algerian embassy or consulate which is responsible for your region – the one in your country or one nearest to you if there is no Alegrian diplomatic mission in your country.

You must find out which embassy or consular office covers your region before you apply.

How Can I Submit an Algeria Visa Application?

You can submit an Algeria visa application in one of the following ways:

  • Yourself, by appearing at the Algerian consulate/embassy in person and handing in the required documents.
  • By mail or courier. Make sure you use a safe postal service because you’ll be sending important documents.
  • Through a proxy, to whom you must give a notarized letter of authorization, stating you consent to them applying on your behalf
  • Through an authorized visa application agency

However, before you submit the application, make sure you know the requirements of the consulate or embassy who will handle your application. Not all consulates accept document submission in all the aforementioned methods.

Algeria Visa Application

The Algerian visa application process is as follows:

  1. Visit the website of the Algerian embassy or consulate in which you will be lodging your visa application to learn about appointment requirements, work days, and opening hours.
  2. Make an Algerian visa appointment. Depending on the consulate, you may be able to do this online.
  3. Complete the Algeria visa application form.
  4. Gather the necessary documents for the Algeria visa (see “Alegria visa requirements” below) and submit them on the date of your appointment. When you submit the documents, you may be asked several questions regarding the purpose of your trip, what you’ll be doing in Algeria, or personal questions, such as your job, salary, etc.
  5. Pay the Algeria visa fee.
  6. Wait for the visa to be processed. When the decision is made, the embassy or consulate will notify you of the decision.
  7. If approved, the consular/embassy staff will contact you to go and get your passport with the afixed visa. If you applied by mail, they will mail you back your passport with the visa affixed. Your visa states the date in which you will be allowed to enter the country.

How Long Does it Take to Get an Algeria Visa?

The Algeria visa processing time depends on the type of visa you’re applying for, the county you are applying from, and the specific embassy or consular office.
However, it usually takes about 10-20 working days to process an Algerian visa. However, to make sure, inquire with the embassy or consulate in which you are applying. If you are applying by mail, the processing time will be longer.
If you submitted any wrong documents, it may cause the processing time for your visa to be delayed, or even for the application to be denied.

What is the duration of an Algeria visa?

The duration of an Algeria visa depends on the reason you are travelling. If you are applying for an Algeria tourist or business visa, the duration is usually a maximum of 90 days. The date when you can enter Algeria and the amount of days you are allowed to remain in the country is stated on your visa. You must leave the country by that date otherwise you risk persecution.
Overstaying a visa can result in being detained at the airport as you leave and even imprisoned, so be cautious.

Can you Extend an Algeria Visa?

Yes, it is possible to extend an Algeria visa beyond the date of its original issuance. You must apply for an Algeria visa extension at least 15 days before your current visa expires at the The Foreigners’ Office (Bureau des Étrangers) in Algeria and have a valid reason as well as an invitation from someone in Algeria.
The person inviting you must write you an Invitation Letter and be present with you when you apply for the Algeria visa extension.
The decision is entirely up to the administration reviewing your case to make.

What Are the Algeria Visa Fees?

There is no standard set of Algeria visa fees which are uniform for everyone.

The fees for Algerian visas differ based on the type of visa you’re applying for (single-entry/multiple-entry, long-stay/short-stay) as well as the Algeria consulate or embassy handling your application.

The required payment method also differs depending on the way you apply.

If you apply in person, you may have to pay in cash at the time of application, or you may be asked to pay via bank draft in advance and hold the payment slip.

If you apply by mail, you will usually have to pay through bank transfer.

Check the website of the Algerian embassy or consulate to learn their preferred payment method for the Algeria visa fee as well as the specific amount.

The Algeria visa fee is non-refundable.

How Can I Transit Through Algeria?

If you have to transit through Algeria or clear immigration in an Algerian airport on your way to another country, you must have an Algerian transit visa.

Algerian transit visas are issued for a maximum of 7 days. The application process for an Algeria transit visa is the same as for other types of Algerian visas (see above).

To apply, you need:

  • Your passport, which is valid for at least another 6 months after entering Algeria and has at least one blank page.
  • A visa allowing you entry into the next country (if visas are required).
  • Flight ticket for onward travel.
  • Two passport-size pictures.
  • Algeria Transit Visa Application form.

If you have UK citizenship, you can apply for your visa once you have landed here, and a tourist visa is valid for 90 days.
  3. Madagascar: Another dream destination for those wanting to see game animals in their natural environment. There are several national parks, and there is something truly magical about a sunset over the trees here. You can get a tourist visa when you arrive, valid for 90 days.
