There are people from countries that have a good relationship with Canada and therefore do not require a visa to enter Canada. These people might not need the visa, but they will need some sort of document that they are approved and admissible to Canada.

What is the Canadian Electronic Travel Authority eTA?

The Electronic Travel Authorization is a travel document for people from countries that do not need a visa for Canada. It is a fast authorization to enter Canada and allows you to board a flight or other means of travelling. It is used instead of the Canada Visitor Visa, so it serves the same purpose.

With the eTA, you can enter Canada and visit family or friends, or just travel around. You are allowed to stay for a short period of time, 6 months or less. You are not allowed to try to stay permanently or apply for a Canadian citizenship. You are also not allowed to apply for any Canadian issued documents or claim Canadian benefits such as health benefits.

The eTA is a much faster version of the visa and it does not require as many documents as a visa does. So, if you qualify for the eTA, you cannot apply for a visa if you are using it for the purpose of just travelling. You will need a visa if you want to work, study, or stay permanently in Canada.

Who Can Travel to Canada With an eTA?

The countries that are exempt from needing to get a visa but need an eTA to enter Canada by air are as follows:

AndorraAustraliaAustria
BahamasBarbadosBelgium
British citizenBritish National (Overseas)British overseas citizens
British Subject with a right of abode in the United KingdomBrunei DarussalamBulgaria
ChileCroatiaCyprus
Czech RepublicDenmarkEstonia
FinlandFranceGermany
GreeceHong KongHungary
IcelandIrelandIsrael
ItalyJapanRepublic of Korea
LatviaLiechtensteinLithuania
LuxembourgMaltaMexico
MonacoNetherlandsNew Zealand
NorwayPapua New GuineaPoland
PortugalRomania (electronic passport holders only)Samoa
San MarinoSingaporeSlovakia
SloveniaSolomon IslandsSpain
SwedenSwitzerlandTaiwan
United Arab EmiratesVatican City State

If you are travelling by car, train, bus, or ship you must check with the Canadian Consulate on whether you can enter with an eTA or need a visa. That is because the Canadian Government can have different rules depending on the means of travel and the country you are from.

What are the Requirements for the eTA Canada?

In order to be eligible for the eTA in Canada, you must meet a few criteria, such as:

  • You must be from one of the countries listed above.
  • You must be at least 18 years old and if you are less than 18 years old, a parent or guardian must apply on your behalf.
  • You must have enough funds to cover you stay in Canada.
  • You must not have been convicted of any crimes and must not have a criminal record.
  • You must have a valid passport issued from your government.
  • You must be healthy and without any dangerous medical problems which might make you seek medical treatment in Canada that you cannot afford. If you will be seeking medical treatment in Canada, you must state that and prove you have enough funds to cover your hospital visits and treatment.
  • You must intend to return to your home country and have strong ties to your home country;
  • You must not intend to study or work in Canada.

How to Complete a Canada eTA Application?

In order to apply for the eTA, you must meet the eligibility criteria and requirements.  You can start the application process by going to this link. This is the official Government of Canada website and the only place where you can apply for an eTA. If you are given other instructions or a different website to apply for an eTA, you should not follow it because someone might be trying to deceive you.

When you go to this link, you will then have to put the following information on the different fields:

  • Details whether you are applying for yourself or someone else;
  • If you are applying on behalf of someone else, you must put in your personal information;
  • The travel document with which you are applying for the eTA and the details on it such as:
    • Country that has issued it;
    • The number of that document (passport number);
    • Date when it was issued and date of expiry;
  • Other personal information such as:
    • Your first and last name;
    • Gender;
    • Date of birth;
    • Nationality;
    • Marital status;
  • Details of any previous visits in Canada or if you have ever had a visa;
  • Employment information;
  • Contact information (e-mail address);
  • Residential address;
  • Travel information such as:
    • Dates of travel to Canada;
    • Flight number (if you have already booked your travel);
  • Background questions such as:
    • Previous refused applications for a visa in Canada;
    • Criminal history;
    • Medical history;
  • Consent and declaration (date and signature).

You must make sure that you put in the right passport number and information. If you put the wrong details about your travel document, then you will not be able to board your flight even if your eTA was approved. You will have to start the application procedure again, pay the fee, and wait for processing.

Supporting Documents for eTA Application

The application for eTA is easy and fast, and you will only need these documents:

  • A valid passport issued by one of the countries mentioned above.
  • A valid e-mail address.
  • A debit, pre-paid card, or credit card issued by:
    • Visa, Mastercard, American Express.
    • Union Pay.
    • JCB Card.
    • Interac.

What Are the Canada eTA Fees?

Once you submit the application with the information required, you will be taken to a site to make your payment of the eTA. Each eTA costs CAD$7, so you will have to pay this fee before you submit your application. If you refuse to pay the fee, the application will not be processed from the Canadian Consulate.

Once you submit the fee, you will receive an email confirmation that your application was received and is being processed.

How Long is the eTA Processing Time?

 eTA applications are processed in a few minutes after you submit the application. You will just get an email stating that you were approved for the eTA.

However, there are cases when the processing of your eTA will take a few days, but it will not take more than 1 week. You will get the approval email and then you can make travel arrangements for Canada.

When you travel to Canada, you will only need to bring your passport with you and no other documents. Your passport has the eTA electronically and the officials will scan it to see whether you have been approved or not. That is why it is important to have the correct passport information on the eTA application. If the eTA and your passport details do not match, you will not be able to travel to Canada.

How Long is the eTA Valid?

Once you get the eTA, you will be able to travel to Canada and stay there for 6 months or less. However, the eTA can be valid for more than that. Most often, your eTA will be approved for up to 5 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. Then it means that you can travel as many times as you want to Canada during that period, but you cannot stay for more than 6 months.

If you get a new passport, you must apply for a new eTA since it cannot be transferred from one passport to the next.

Can I Bring my Dependents With me to Canada With an eTA?

The eTA visa Canada is an individual travel document and it cannot be used by multiple people. It is automatically attached to the passport of the person and that is why each member of the family must have their own eTA.

So, your spouse or common law partner must apply for their own eTA, while either one of the parents or guardians can apply for the eTA of the children. The application process is the same as well as the application fee.

European Union citizens will need to get an eVisitor Visa before they can travel to Australia. This type of visa allows you to visit Australia as many times as you wish within a year as long as each trip is shorter than three months. The best part is that you can obtain the eVisitor entirely online.

What Is the eVisitor Visa?

The eVisitor is a travel authorization, similar to a visa, which allows the holder to visit Australia. You can apply for an eVisitor online and will receive the confirmation via email. Your confirmed eVisitor is then saved on an online database which can be accessed through your passport number, which is how Australian immigration knows that you have been granted a visa.

Because it is a facilitated type of visa, you can usually expect to get the eVisitor within a couple of days.

Who is Eligible for an eVisitor?

Citizens from the following European countries are eligible to get the eVisitor visa for Australia:

AndorraAustriaBelgium
BulgariaCroatiaCyprus
CzechiaDenmarkEstonia
FinlandFranceGermany
GreeceHungaryIceland
IrelandItalyLatvia
LiechtensteinLithuaniaLuxembourg
MaltaMonacoNetherlands
NorwayPolandPortugal
RomaniaSan MarinoSlovakia
SloveniaSpainSweden
SwitzerlandUnited KingdomVatican City

How to Apply for an eVisitor for Australia?

You can apply for an eVisitor online, through the official visa application portal of Australia:

  1. Create an ImmiAccount.
  2. Enter your personal details, passport information, and the purpose of travel.
  3. Attach any required documents.
  4. Submit the application.
  5. Wait to hear back. You will receive an email confirming your visa application within one to two days. The letter includes your visa grant number, the date on which it starts, and how long it is valid.

eVisitor Requirements

When applying for the eVisitor visa, you need the following:

  • Passport, valid for at least six more months.
  • A valid email address.
  • A credit or debit card to pay the fee.

Although the eVisitor is a type of Australian visa, it is a facilitated one, which means that the requirements are much more lenient than they are for a regular tourist visa. However, the visa officers assessing your application may decide you need to provide additional documents, in which case you may be asked to submit electronic copies of the following documents:

  • Your passport’s bio page. The page which includes your picture and name. See Australia visa photo requirements.
  • A copy of your ID Card (front and back).
  • Proof of the reason you are visiting Australia.
  • A travel itinerary.
  • Proof of accommodation in Australia, such as a hotel booking or letter from a friend/relative who will host you.
  • Your flight reservation.
  • Proof that your trip is indeed temporary. This can be a letter from your employer or school, stating the date on which you are expected to return. It can also be proof that you have family obligations and dependent family members back home.
  • Your bank statements from the last three months.
  • A list of your travel companions.

Who Assesses the eVisitor Application?

The authority in charge of processing your eVisitor application is the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Regardless of the manner in which you apply – online or using the help of a visa or travel agency – your application is forwarded to the Department of Home Affairs who has the final say on the outcome.

How Much Does the eVisitor Cost?

The eVisitor for Australia is issued free of charge. In some cases, you may be required to pay an AUD 20 processing fee.

After Getting the eVisitor

Once your application has been approved, you will receive an email confirmation. Make sure to save this email – you can even print it out – and keep it with you when you travel. This has all the necessary information about your eVisitor.

Once you arrive in Australia, the immigration officer at the entry point will ask for your passport and check your eVisitor on the online database where it is recorded before allowing you through.

How Long Can I Stay in Australia with an eVisitor?

Your eVisitor Visa is valid for 12 months from the date it is issued. During this time, you can enter the country as many times as you want and stay up to three months per each visit. You cannot work during this period.

Can I Extend my Stay?

If you are in Australia with an eVisitor and it is about to expire, you can approach the nearest immigration or visa office and request a new eVisitor (Subclass 651) Visa. Be sure to do so at least two weeks before your current eVisitor expires.

If you are about to approach the end of your 3-month-per-trip period of stay, you could also simply leave the country and re-enter in a few days’ time, which would give you another three months – provided that the eVisitor is still valid.

What If I Overstay My eVisitor Visa?

It is important to keep track of your visa’s validity and how long you have been in Australia. If you overstay without strong grounds, even by just a few days, it could impact your chances of getting another eVisitor in the future. If you stay past your eVisitor expiry by more than 4 weeks, then you may be stopped by immigration as you depart the country and be taken for an interview. In some cases, you could even receive a three-year travel ban.

Normally, if you have strong grounds for having overstayed, such as a sudden illness or accident, then you can notify the Department of Home Affairs and be advised on how to proceed.

How Can I Check My Visa Validity?

You can check your eVisitor’s validity through the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO). You can access VEVO by using one of the following:

  • Transaction Reference Number (TRN) – which you will receive when you start the online visa application.
  • Visa Grant Number – which you receive once your eVisitor visa application is successful.
  • Your Immigration Card (ImmiCard).

When signing up for a VEVO account, you also have to provide your birthdate, passport number, and country of nationality.

Can I Work With an eVisitor Visa?

No, you are not allowed to take up any sort of paid employment while you are in Australia with an eVisitor permit. You may only engage in business activities such as attend meetings, sign contracts, hold or attend seminars and presentations, etc.

If you want to work in Australia, you will need the relevant type of Australian work visa.

Can I Study With an eVisitor?

With an eVisitor, you can take a short-term study course of up to three months. If you plan to take a course longer than three months, then you will need to apply for an Australian student visa instead.

Can I Volunteer With an eVisitor Visa?

You can do volunteer work while you are in Australia with an eVisitor as long as it is truly voluntary and you do not receive any salary or wages for it. You may be reimbursed for accommodation, food, and living expenses.

Do I Need an eVisitor If I Enter Australia on a Cruise?

Yes, if you are on a cruise that is scheduled to enter Australia at some point, you will have to get an eVisitor.

What If My eVisitor Visa is Denied?

If your eVisitor is denied, you will usually receive the reason on the email by the Department of Home Affairs. They will also notify you on whether you have the right to appeal or ask to review the decision and if you need to approach a visa office or Australian Embassy to submit a paper application. In some cases, they may simply request for you to submit additional documents before they grant you your visa.

What If I Gave the Wrong Information?

If you accidentally entered the wrong information during your application, you may be able to log back into your ImmiAccount and update them. You have to:

  1. Select the ‘Update details’ option on the portal
  2. Select ‘Notification of incorrect answer(s)’.
  3. Add the correct information.
  4. Confirm.

If the Department of Home Affairs is already assessing your application or have finished doing so, then your application could be rejected and you might have to submit a new application.

    • Size: 4 cm x 6 cm
    • White background

How to Apply for a Vietnam Visa Online?

The application process for a Vietnam eVisa is as follows:

  1. Start an online application through the Vietnam Immigration Portal.
  2. Attach a scanned copy of your passport as well as a passport-size picture of yourself.
  3. Complete the Vietnam eVisa Application Form. You have to answer questions regarding the purpose of your travel, your personal information (name, age, nationality, passport information), the dates of entry and departure, the port of entry, etc.
  4. Review your Application Form.
  5. Pay the Vietnam e-Visa fee. Once you review the Application form, and agree that the information you have entered is correct, you have to pay a fee of USD 25 through a credit/debit card.
  6. Wait for the visa to be processed (this usually takes up to three working days)
  7. Check this website to learn whether a decision has been made.

Once you receive the eVisa, you can travel to Vietnam and present the printed version of the visa to the Immigration officers at the port of entry.

Things to note:

If you have a child younger than 14 who is traveling with you, you have to include them on your passport.

You can authorize a travel agency or visa application agency to submit the Vietnam eVisa application on your behalf.

If an organization has invited you to Thailand, they can also submit an eVisa application on your behalf.

How Much Does the Vietnam eVisa Cost?

A Vietnam eVisa costs USD 25 per application, which you have to pay before you submit the application.

What is the duration of a Vietnam e Visa?

An eVisa for Vietnam is issued for a maximum of thirty days and for a single-entry.

Can I extend an e Visa in Vietnam?

The rules for visa extensions in Vietnam are not always uniform. If your Vietnam visa is about to expire, and you want to stay for longer, then your best bet is to contact the nearest Immigration Office and learn whether an extension is possible.

Not all nationalities are eligible for a visa extension, and sometimes, the Immigration Services may not issue extensions of short-term visas at all. In this case, you would have to leave the country, apply for a new visa, and then re-enter.

Other Methods of Applying for a Vietnam Visa

If you are not eligible to submit the application for a Vietnam visa online, then you can apply through one of the following means:

Vietnam Visa On Arrival

If you will enter Vietnam through one of the following ports of entry, you can get the Vietnam Visa On Arrival:

  • Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City
  • Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi
  • Danang Airport in Da Nang
  • Cat Bi Airport in Hai Phong
  • Cam Ranh Airport in Nha Trang

Before traveling to Vietnam and applying for a VOA, you have to get a Letter of Approval from the Vietnam Immigration Department. You can apply for the Letter of Approval online through a travel agency that’s authorized by the Vietnamese Immigration Department.

You must use the Approval Letter to get the visa stamped on your passport at the visa-issuing counter at the port of entry in Vietnam.

Vietnam Visa at an Embassy or Consulate

If you want to have the visa already stamped on your passport before you travel and avoid the queues at the airport, then you can get the Vietnam visa from an Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam in your country.

Difference Between a Vietnam eVisa and a Visa Approval Letter

You have to apply for both the Vietnam e-Visa for Vietnam and a Visa Approval Letter online. However, the two are not the same thing.

  • The Vietnam e-Visa is an actual visa. You receive it online, print it, present it before the Immigration Officers in Vietnam, and then you will be allowed to enter the country. You do not have to queue up at a visa-issuing counter and get a visa stamped on your passport – the eVisa is all you need.
  • The Visa Approval Letter is a document that you have to get from the Vietnamese Immigration Department before you travel to Vietnam and apply for a Visa On Arrival (VOA). You cannot enter the country with just a Visa Approval Letter. You have to queue up at the visa-issuing counters at the airport in Vietnam and get the VOA stamped on your passport before you can clear immigration and enter the country.

Remember that eVisas are issued for short-term stays such as Taiwan visitor visas, business visas, or tourist visas. Taiwan eVisa Requirements

You usually need to have only a valid passport when you submit your eVisa application for Taiwan; your passport has to be valid for at least six months when you apply.

However, depending on your purpose of travel and your nationality, a ROC mission overseas may ask you to submit additional documents- make sure you submit the required documents at the specified timeframe or your application will be rejected.

Taiwan eVisa Application Process

You can apply for a Taiwan eVisa by following the instructions listed below:

  3. Fill in the online application form.
  4. Pay the application fee.
  5. Print out the visa.

Open an Email Account

If you don’t have an active email account, then you have to open one since you will receive all communications from the visa website in your email. However, if you do have an account, there is no need to open a new one as long as it’s active and you can access it with no issues.

Go to the Offical Website of an Official ROC Mission in Your Country

If you are from an eligible country for a Taiwan eVisa, then you can find the eVisa application link on the official website of a Taiwan mission in your country. If you are not from an eligible country, but you still meet the criteria for an eVisa, you can find the eVisa application form here.

Fill In the Online Application Form

Once you find the online application, you can start filling out the required information. First, make sure you select the correct visa (visitor, tourist, business, etc.), and then you can continue with the application.

It’s essential to keep in mind that you must submit the same information that is in your travel document; if any details do not match, your application will be rejected. So, write your name and personal data precisely as it is your passport.

Pay the Application Fee

You have to pay the visa fee online before your application is processed. After you fill out your application, there will be a section for the payment; the ROC accepts only payment by credit card (Visa/MasterCard/ JCB), no other payment method is accepted. However, someone else can pay for your visa on your behalf.

Print Out the Visa

When your eVisa is approved, the visa system of the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) will send you an email with a link containing your eVisa. Download the eVisa and take the printout with you since you must present it at border patrol when you enter Taiwan.

Taiwan eVisa Cost

A Taiwan eVisa costs $57.68, but together with the processing fee of $1.60, the full payment is $59.28. However, if you are from the following countries, you do not have to pay an application fee for the eVisa:

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Colombia
  • Kiribati
  • Kosovo
  • Mauritius
  • Montenegro
  • Panama
  • Peru
  • Solomon Islands
  • Turkey

Please keep in mind that the visa fee is non-refundable if your visa is rejected. Even if you do not use your visa after paying the application fee, the payment is still non-refundable.

The ROC recommends that you apply for your electronic visa at least 7 days before you plan on travelling to Taiwan.

How Long Is a Taiwan eVisa Valid For?

Since 2017, citizens of certain countries have been able to apply for a Malaysia visa online.

Malaysia currently has two online visa application systems: Electronic Visa (Malaysia eVisa) and Electronic Travel Registration and Information (Malaysia eNTRI visa).

The Malaysia Online Visa makes the application process easier since you can avoid all the waiting in lines and apply from your home. However, online Malaysian visa application is not available to everyone.

What Types of Malaysian Visas are Eligible for Online Application?

You can only apply for a Malaysian visa online if you are travelling for tourism purposes.

For any other purposes, such as for business, you will have to apply in person at the nearest Malaysian Mission Abroad (Embassy/Consulate/High Commission) or through an authorized Visa Application Center.

Who is Eligible to Apply for a Malaysia eVisa?

Only citizens of the following countries are eligible to apply for a Malaysian eVisa:

  • China
  • India
  • Sri Lanka
  • Nepal
  • Myanmar
  • Bangladesh
  • Pakistan
  • Bhutan
  • Serbia
  • Montenegro

Moreover, you can apply for an eVisa from anywhere in the world (except Malaysia and Singapore), so you can apply for the Malaysian eVisa even if you are not currently living in your country of nationality.

What Documents Do I Need to Collect for a Malaysia e-Visa?

Since the application is done online, you will need to have access to a scanner so you can scan the required documents and upload them. The documents you will need when applying for a Malaysian e Visa are:

How Many Malaysia eVisa Applications Can I Submit With One Account?

If you are applying for your children/other dependents, you can only submit up to five applications at any one time.

If you need to apply for more, then you can do so only after one of the previous applications have been processed.

Receiving the Malaysia eVisa

If your Malaysian eVisa is approved, you will receive it via email. Then, you can print it on an A4 page and bring it with you when you travel to Malaysia.

The Immigration Officers will also accept the digital version of the visa (such as on your phone or laptop) when you arrive at the Malaysian port of entry. However, it is still advisable to have a printed version as well.

How Long is the Malaysia eVisa Valid For?

An eVisa for Malaysia is valid for three months, and allows the holder to stay in the country only up to 30 days within this time frame.

If you are an Indian national, you can apply for either a Multiple Entry Visa or a Single Entry Visa. The eVisa is still valid for three months and you cannot stay longer than 30 days in any trip.

If you are from any of the other countries eligible for the Malaysian eVisa, you are only allowed to apply for a Single Entry Visa and stay up to 30 days.

In either case, it is not possible to extend a Malaysian eVisa.

How Can I Enter Malaysia if I am an eVisa Holder?

If you have a Malaysian eVisa, you can enter the country through any entry point (sea, air, or land).

Who is Eligible for a Malaysia eNTRI Visa?

eNTRI, which stands for Electronic Travel Registration and Information, is an online registration facility available only to nationals of China and India.

The eNTRI Malaysia works under the Visa Waiver Programme, making it easier for passport-holders of those two countries to enter Malaysia.

Please note that only mainland Chinese nationals are eligible for the Malaysia eNTRI – Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are excluded.

Additionally, you can apply for the eNTRI from anywhere in the world (except Singapore and Malaysia), therefore you are eligible even if you are an expatriate.

If you want to stay for longer than 15 days, you will have to apply for a Malaysian eVISA as described above.

Will I be Allowed to Enter Malaysia With a Malaysian Online Visa?

No, the online visa serves like any other visa in regards to the fact that it does not guarantee entry to Malaysia.

It only allows the holder to travel to Malaysia, where they will present themselves at the Immigration Officers at the point of entry.

The Immigration Officer then decides whether you are eligible to enter the country or not – if you are granted permission, you will receive a Stamp on your passport which states the number of days you are allowed to stay.

What Will You Need After You Arrive in Malaysia?

Once you arrive in Malaysia, you must go through border control at the point of entry, where you must present the following documents to the Immigration Officers:

  • Proof of accommodation, such as hotel booking.
  • A booked return flight ticket.
