Experiencing rapid development in recent years, Mexico, officially the United Mexican States, has expanded its economic market. This resulted in more foreigners and investors entering the country with the purpose of making Mexico their new home.

Currently, Mexico is home to more than 1 million expats from around the world. You can easily travel to Mexico and stay there for a certain period of time, but if you want to move in permanently, the procedure is more complicated.

Retired foreigners who want to reside permanently in Mexico for retirement purposes can do so by getting a Mexican Permanent Resident Card.

The Mexican Permanent Resident Card, also referred to as the Mexico Retirement Visa, is the most popular retirement option among foreigners who want to retire in Mexico.

To get a Permanent Residence Card, you must first apply for a Permanent Resident Visa and then convert the visa into a Mexican Permanent Resident Card.

Once you obtain a Permanent Resident Card, you can live in Mexico for an indefinite period of time.

What Are The Eligibility Criteria for Retirement in Mexico?

To be eligible for a Mexican Permanent Resident Card, you must meet certain criteria such as the following:

  • You must have enough financial resources to live comfortably in Mexico.
  • You must plan to live permanently in Mexico without participating in any gainful activities.

    • Your full name, address, and passport number
    • Information about your pension, such as where you receive it from and the amount
    • Whether you have any investments
    • Your address in Mexico and the address in your home country
    • The date when you will travel and which port you will enter through

  • If you have a dependent:

Healthcare for Retirees in Guatemala

The healthcare system of Guatemala is divided into three separate divisions: the public, private nonprofit, and private for-profit sectors. The public health sector provides medical care through hospitals, health facilities, and health centers, whereas the private sector provides medical care within private offices, clinics, and hospitals.

Public healthcare in Guatemala is a “single-payer” system, offering free medical services to everyone and it covers about 88% of the population The public healthcare sector is focused more on treating diseases, therefore primary care in facilities is basic. In big cities like Guatemala City, hospitals provide high-quality medical care, but you will not find the same care in other cities, especially in rural areas of the country.

Although Guatemala offers free public healthcare services to all Guatemalan citizens there are several medical services like blood work or radiology that can only be performed in private companies. As a result, citizens are forced to opt for private healthcare.

When choosing private healthcare, it is recommended to choose a health plan that offers international coverage for all medical services.

A Permanent Canada Visa is a visa which allows the holder to stay in Canada permanently. It is an immigration visa, just like the Green Card is for the United States. Once you get a Permanent Canada Visa, you can move to any province of Canada, live, work, and study there. You are considered a Canadian Permanent Resident.

Once your visa is approved, you will get a Permanent Resident Card. This card, otherwise known as a Canadian PR Card proves that you have permanent residence in Canada. You must have it with you at all times, especially when you travel.

You must be at least 18 years old to apply and you can apply with your child if they are under 18 years old.

What Are the Benefits of a Canada Permanent Visa?

  • You get protection under Canadian law and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
  • You can apply for a Canadian citizenship once you are eligible;

To allow them to visit Canada, the Consulate issues a Facilitation Visa in the passport of the other nationality that they hold.
  • Business Persons and Business Delegations Visa – is the visa for businesspeople who are going to Canada for the purposes of doing business, attending meetings, workshops, conferences, or trade shows;
  • Persons wishing to enter Canada for the purpose of giving birth – is the visa given to women who want to give birth to a baby in Canada, since any child born in Canada is considered a citizen;
  • Intending Organ Donors Visa – is the visa for those who want to donate an organ to a Canadian Permanent Resident or a Canadian Citizen;
  • Dual Intent Visa – is the visa for those who want to stay in Canada temporarily, but intend to also apply for a permanent visa and claim so in their applications.

What are the requirements for the TRV Canada?

Since this is a category of visas and not a single visa, there are two types of requirements that potential applicants must fulfill to qualify or be eligible for any of the visas:

  • General Visa Requirements
  • Visa Specific Requirements

General Requirements for all Temporary Resident Visas

The standard Canada Visa Requirements are a set of criteria that apply to any of the Temporary Resident Visas, no matter the purpose of your visit.

To apply for any of the Canada temporary resident visas you must submit the following forms:

  • Form IMM 5257, Application for Temporary Resident.
  • Form IMM 5707, Family Information Form.

Other forms that you might have to fill out if they are applicable for you are:

  • Form IMM 5409, Statutory Declaration of Common-law Union.
  • Form IMM 5476, Use of a Representative.
  • Form IMM 5475, Authority to release personal information to a designated individual.

Visa Specific Requirements

If you qualify and meet the standard Canada Visa Requirements, then there are additional criteria based on your purpose of visit. These are different for each type of visa in the group. A few examples of such requirements are below:

  • For the Tourist Visa, you must have an itinerary of the places you plan to visit in Canada;
  • For the Super Visa, you must have an invitation letter from your child or grandchild and proof of relationship such as a birth certificate;
  • For the Business Visa, you must prove that you work for a company other than the one you are doing business with in Canada;
  • For the Diplomatic Visa, you must have documents which prove you are a governmental official of your country and you are visiting Canada for official duties, etc.

For more detailed visa specific requirements, we recommend you find the specific visa you are applying for in our guide and go through the details and instructions. Meeting these requirements is very important for you to get the visa. If you do not qualify for all the requirements, then you might have to submit additional proof to the Canadian Consulate to convince them that they should give you the visa, or the officials will reject your application.

How to Apply for a Temporary Resident Visa?

The application for Temporary Resident Visa has a set of steps that applicants must follow. There are two ways you can apply for the TRV:

  • Online application;
  • Application in person;

Since most application processes are being digitized, it is recommended that you try and apply online if it is possible. However, even if you apply online, if the Consulate requires an interview or your biometrics, you will have to show up in person. If you apply in person, then you will have to visit the Consulate multiple times to complete the whole process.

The application process for the TRV has these specific steps:

Confirm your eligibility for a Temporary Resident Visa for Canada

You must go to the Government of Canada website to the Immigration tab. Click on that tab and then click on Visit. When you get to the page, you will see a link called “Find out if you need a visa”. Click on that link and you will be directed to a survey.

You must answer the questions truthfully and select the reason for your visit. The questionnaire will analyze your answers and determine whether you need a Temporary Resident visa, whether you are eligible, or if you only need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

If you are eligible for a Temporary Visitor Visa, then the page will direct you to the instructions on how to apply. You can apply online or in person and with the increasing digitalization of visa applications, it is much easier if you apply online. Answer a few more questions on the “Determine your eligibility and apply online” survey and you will be given a reference code and a checklist of what you have to do to apply.

Create an account

You must save the reference code and then open an account in the same Government of Canada website. You can either open the account through your bank account details or use a Government of Canada login (GCKey). Once you login, you can start your application.

Submit the Application

Use your reference code to access your answers to the questionnaire and the forms you need to fill out.

Wait for processing and respond to additional requests for information

Once you submit your application, it will take around 5 days for it to show up on your account. During the next few weeks, the Canadian Consulate will process the application. If they see it necessary, they will invite you for a visa interview and/or to give your biometric information.

If that happens, you must attend the interview at the scheduled time and respond to all the questions truthfully.

Send your passport for stamping

Once your Canada Temporary Resident visa is approved, the notification will show up on your online account or the Embassy will let you know once you complete the interview. The next step is to then submit your passport for stamping and processing.

If you have completed all the procedures online, then the Embassy will send you an email with instructions on where to mail your passport. You must mail the passport and the processing fees, as well as pay for a return envelope. If you are at the Embassy in person, then you will pay the fees there and give the Consular Officer your passport.

The Consulate will process your passport, stamp it, and return to you. If they mail it back, it will take a few days to arrive, but from that point forward, you can start making your travel arrangements for your visit in Canada.

An aged dependent visa is a family permit that is issued to aged relatives of Australian residents or citizens so they can come to Australia. To get an aged dependent visa, you must be truly dependent on your family member in Australia, either financially, physically or mentally.

Eligibility Requirements for an Aged Dependent Visa

The eligibility requirements for an aged dependent visa are as follows:

  • You must have an acceptable sponsor.
  • You must be of pension age (between 65-67).
  • You must be genuinely dependent on your sponsor.
  • You must be single.
  • You must have assurance of support.

If you are applying for subclass 883, in addition to the eligibility requirements your previous visa must not have a “no further stay” condition.

Assurance of Support

Assurance of support is a type of agreement between your sponsor and the Australian government. The point of this agreement is to make it easier for you to get a visa. For example, the Australian government agrees to help you financially with income support and your sponsor agrees to pay back the government on your behalf.

To get legitimate assurance of support, your sponsor must first apply to become an assurer, your sponsor will also be required to sit for an interview and discuss the details of what it means to be an assurer. The Department of Home Affairs will let you know when you need the assurance of support.

Who Can Sponsor Me for an Aged Dependent Visa?

You can be sponsored by your relative or your partner who is already settled in Australia as long as your sponsor is:

  • Over the age of 18.
  • An Australian citizen.
  • An Australian permanent resident.
  • An eligible New Zealand citizen.

Your sponsor must agree to house, and financially support you for the first two years you live in Australia.

Alternative Sponsorship

Your sponsor can still support you for an aged dependent visa on behalf of someone under 18 if they are:

  • Married or related to the person under 18, and one of the following:
    • An Australian citizen.
    • An Australian permanent resident.
    • An eligible New Zealand citizen.

Document Checklist for an Aged Dependent Visa

These are the documents you need for your aged dependant visa:

  • Your passport. You must have a valid copy of your passport’s information pages, and any other identification documents that may be required, such as your ID card or a certificate of name change (if applicable).
  • Visa application form. You must fill in the application form and send it with the rest of your application.
  • Sponsor documents. Your sponsor must fill in form 40 so you can provide it with your visa application. You may also be required to submit documents that prove your sponsor’s residency status in Australia.
  • Proof of your relationship with your sponsor. You have to provide evidence that shows you are truly related to your sponsor. You can submit a marriage certificate, a birth certificate, adoption papers, or an official family book.
  • Proof of dependency. To get this visa, you must also submit proof that you are dependent on your sponsor- proof of dependency can be bank statements, money transfers, or rent receipts.
  • Proof you meet the character requirements. The Department of Home Affairs will let you know when and if you need character documents, don’t submit them unless specifically requested.
  • Documents for dependents under 18. If you apply with family members under 18, please provide their identity documents, birth certificates, marriage certificate, and character documents (if applicable). You must also get parental consent from the child’s parents or guardians, provide either form 1229, statutory declaration or a legal certificate.
  • Documents for dependents over 18. You have to provide your dependent’s identity documents, character documents and proof of relationship with you. If they are dependent on you, provide a dependency form47, and other proof of dependency.

How to Apply for an Aged Dependent Visa?

The application process for an aged dependent visa consists of three important parts:

  1. The application
  2. The first assessment.
  3. The second assessment.

The Application

For this visa, you have to be out of the country at the time of application and submit a paper application. You have to complete the visa application form, and attach the rest of the required documents and send your application by courier at the address stated in the application form. For paper applications, your civil status documents have to be certified- see how to certify your documents.

To have your application processed, you must submit the first instalment fee. Even though you are applying with a paper application, the fee must be paid online via ImmiAccount. If you don’t have an account, open one, find the online platform’s payment option, and submit the first instalment.

The First Assessment

Once you have sent all the required documents, your application will undergo the first assessment by the Immigration office. At this point, your visa request will be put in a queue and you have to wait until there is an available place in the migration program.

The Second Assessment

After your application finishes the first assessment, the Department will review your application once more and they will let you know when and how much you have to pay the second instalment fee.

Without the second fee, you won’t receive a visa, so make sure you pay the complete required fee.

Application Fee for an Aged Dependent Visa

The application fee for an aged dependent visa is AUD6,490. This fee has to be paid in two instalments; you pay the first instalment (AUD4,425) when you apply and you will be notified when to pay the second instalment after your application has been assessed.

Don’t forget that you are required to pay another fee for every family member that applies with you. You can also use the visa price estimator here, to see what the first instalment is.

Aged Dependent Visa Processing Time

This visa will take up to 50 years to finish processing. When your application finishes the first assessment, it is put into a queue and this waiting period may last up to 50 years.

As of February 2021, the Department of Home Affairs has begun to finalize applications that were submitted up to August 2 of 2011.

Applying with Other Family Members

You can apply with other family members if they are your child or step-child. You can add your family members at any time of the application as long as a final decision hasn’t been made by the Department of Home Affairs.

Your family members have to meet the health requirements and character requirements, sometimes even family members who don’t apply with you may be required to meet these requirements.

What Is the Difference Between an Aged Dependent Relative Visa 114 and 883?

The difference between visa 114 and subclass 883 is that when you apply for subclass 114 you have to be outside Australia. If you apply for subclass 883, you have to be in Australia at the time of application and when a decision is made on your application. However, you still have to submit a paper application even for subclass 883.

Is Aged Dependent Visa Permanent?

Yes, if you get the visa, you can stay in Australia indefinitely. You will also be able to access Australia’s MediCare, study and work according to your wishes.

Can I Bring My Parents to Australia With an Aged Dependent Visa?

Your parents can come to Australia under an aged dependent visa if they meet the eligibility criteria. However, you may want to explore parent visa types to see which one might work best for you and your parents.

If you are settled in Australia and want to bring your parents to live with you temporarily, they will have to apply for an 870 Visa. Before that, you have to submit a request to learn whether you meet the requirements to be a sponsor in the first place.

Please note that the Subclass 870 Visa does not lead to permanent residence for your parents.

What is the Australian Subclass 870 Visa?

The Australian Sponsored Parent Visa (Subclass 870) is a temporary visa that is issued to the parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents, allowing them to live in Australia with their children for a maximum of ten years.

To be able to sponsor your parent for an 870 visa, you have to fulfill the following conditions:

  • You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, who has been resident in Australia for at least four years.
  • You must be the legal child of your parents (biological, adoptive, or step-child). You may also sponsor your spouse or partner’s parents
  • You must not have been unlawfully living in Australia during the last four years.
  • You must not have held a bridging visa other than the bridging visas A, B or C during the last four years.
  • You (and your spouse/partner) must have a joint income of at least AUD 83,454. If you do not have a spouse/partner, you must meet the income requirements yourself.
  • You must not have any debts to the Australian government.

Who Can I Sponsor to Australia for the 870 Visa?

You can sponsor your parents or your parents-in-law (your spouse’s or partner’s parents), but not both parties simultaneously. So, one household can sponsor only two parents at a time, as such:

  • One or both of your parents, or;
  • One or both of your parents-in-law, or;
  • One of your parents and one of your parents-in-law.

What Does It Mean to Be a Sponsor for the Parent Visa 870?

As a sponsor to your parents, you are legally required to fulfill the following obligations:

  • You must provide your parents with financial support and accommodation for the duration of their visit. You are not required to support them in this manner if they switch to a permanent visa.
  • You must notify the Immigration Authorities if there is any change in your or your parents’ situation. For example, if you are arrested and charged or if one of the parents passes away.
  • If your parents incur any debts to the Australian state, you have to pay it back. This obligation does not end if your parents leave Australia.

If you do not fulfill these obligations, your parents’ visas will be cancelled along with your sponsorship.

Requirements for the Parent Visa 870

The documents required for the 870 Visa from both sponsor and parent include:

  • Valid passport. Both the parent and the sponsor must have a valid passport at the time of application.
  • Passport size picture of the applicant, in line with Australian photo requirements.
  • Proof that the applicant meets the required character conditions to be in Australia.
  • Health check of the applicant (if required by the Immigration).
  • Proof that the sponsor meets the minimum income requirements (at least AUD 83,454/year).
  • Proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residence of the sponsor.
  • Proof of family relationship, such as birth certificate, adoption certificate, or family register.
  • Any other documents required by the Australian Immigration Authorities.

Document guidelines:

  • The documents submitted have to be electronic copies of the original
  • If the applicant has to submit any documents on paper, they must be certified by someone who is eligible.

How to Apply for the Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa? (Step-by-Step)

The Sponsored Parent Visa application is divided into two main steps:

  • Step 1: You apply to become a Sponsor.
  • Step 2: Your parents apply for the Temporary Parent Visa (Subclass 870).

Step 1: Sponsorship Application

Before your parents can apply for their 870 Visa, you have to apply for the right to sponsor them in the first place. To apply for sponsorship, you have to:

  • Log in to your ImmiAccount.
  • Complete the electronic application form for Sponsorship for a Family Member (870).
  • Attach the required documents.
  • Pay the Sponsorship application fee (AUD 420).
  • If your parents are already in Australia, you have to request Permission to Apply in Australia.
  • Wait for the application to be processed. In the meantime, the Immigration Authorities will notify you if you need to submit additional documents or information.

After your application for sponsorship has been approved, you will receive an email which states the following information:

  • Your Sponsorship Transaction Reference Number (TRN).
  • Your obligations as a sponsor.
  • The date of sponsorship approval. Within six months of this date, your parents have to apply for the visa. If they are in Australia already, they have 60 days to apply.

Step 2: Visa 870 Application

Within six months after your application for sponsorship is approved, your parents must apply for a Parent-Sponsored Visa. All Australian visa applications are submitted online, through an ImmiAccount. For an 870 Parent Visa, your parents may apply from inside or outside Australia:

  • If they are outside Australia, they have to submit the application within six months of your sponsorship approval.
  • If they are inside Australia, they have to submit the application within 60 days of sponsorship approval.

How Much Does the Parent Visa 870 Cost?

The cost of the 879 Visa depends on its validity:

  • 3-year 870 Visa: AUD 5,000
  • 5-year 870 Visa: AUD 10,000

In addition to the visa fees, you also have to pay the AUD 420 sponsorship application fee along with all health insurance expenses for your parents.

How Long Does it Take to Process the Application?

It takes several weeks to several months to process an application for the Temporary Parent Visa 870. According to the Immigration Authorities, most visas are processed within 53 days, but some may take up to 69 days or longer as well.

The processing time for a visa will be longer if the Immigration Authorities require additional documents and information. It will be much shorter if everything is in order.

How Long Can My Parents Stay In Australia With an 870 Visa?

The Temporary Sponsored Visa allows your parents to stay in Australia up to ten years. It is originally issued either for three or five years and your parents can renew the visa again, for another three or five years, for a maximum duration of ten years.

To extend their stay in Australia for longer than ten years, your parents must apply for another type of visa once this one expires. They cannot extend the 870 Visa.

Does the 870 Visa Lead to Permanent Residency?

No, the 870 Visa does not lead to permanent residency in Australia. In fact, holding this type of visa makes it very difficult -if not impossible – for your parents to obtain any of the Permanent Parent Visas, such as Subclass 103, Subclass 143, or Subclass 804. They would have to wait until the 870 Visa expires, leave Australia, and then apply for the appropriate permanent visa, wait for it to be processed, and finally come to live with you permanently – provided that they meet the requirements.

Can I Get a 10-Year Parent Visa in Australia?

The 870 Visa is not issued for ten years from the start, but it can be “extended” to allow your parents to stay in Australia for a maximum of ten years, in periods of three or five years. Before your parents’ current visa expires, they must apply for a new one and you must re-apply for the right to sponsor them. In your sponsorship application, you must request the right for your parents to apply from within Australia and you must pay for the visa again, either AUD 5,000 or AUD 10,000.

After five years, they must leave Australia and are not allowed to apply for a different parent visa until their Visa 870 has expired.

Is Balance of Family Test Required for the 870 Visa?

No, you do not need a Balance of Family Test for the 870 Visa. This test measures the family ties of a parent to their children in Australia and is one of the most important requirements for permanent parent visa applications.

Since the 870 Visa is temporary, the Immigration does not ask you to provide this test.

Can Parents Work With an 870 Visa?

No, your parents will not be able to work in Australia with an 870 Visa.
