Who Needs a Visa for Belize?

If you are a foreign citizen coming from one of the countries listed below, you need a visa to enter Belize:

Individuals from one of the countries listed below need a visa to enter Belize in the following instances. 

• Citizens of the Republic of Venezuela need a visa if they plan to stay longer than 30 days in Belize.
• Citizens of the Republic of Argentina need a visa if they plan to stay longer than 90 days in Belize.
• Citizens of The United States of America need a visa if they plan to stay longer than 180 days in Belize.

How to Apply for a Belize Visa?

You must follow these steps to apply for a Belize visa:

Contact the Nearest Embassy/Consulate of Belize in Your Home Country

The first step when applying for a Belize visa is to contact the embassy/consulate of Belize in your home county and book an appointment. Your appointment will allow you to have a quicker and easier application process.

Fill Out the Application Form

You can fill out the application form online. Make sure you fill out the application form, print a hard copy, and sign it at the end. Do not leave any blank spaces.

Gather All the Requested Documents

Make sure you gather all the requested documents listed below at ‘Belize Visa Requirements’ and submit them to the nearest embassy/consulate of Belize in your home country.

Wait for an Answer

After fulfilling all the requested steps, you must wait for a response. You will receive a response from the embassy/consulate to which you have submitted the documents via email or text message within 30 days.

• Letter of invitation. A letter of invitation is a document issued from a family member, friend, or family member that proves you have a sponsor and a place to stay in Belize. 
• Criminal record. The criminal record is a document issued from the police authorization in your home country, and it must prove that you are not a threat to the Republic Of Belize.

Duration of Belize Visa

The duration of a Belize visa depends on the type of visa you apply for. So if you apply for a short-stay visa, you are allowed to stay in Belize for three months. If you apply for a long-stay visa, you can stay in Belize for one year.

Residence Permit for Belize

If you plan to stay longer than one year in Belize, you must apply for a Belize residence permit at the Immigration Department. Depending on the purpose of your stay in Belize, there are two types of residence permits:

• Temporary residence permit.
• Permanent residence permit.  

Temporary Residence Permit

A temporary residence permit is issued to applicants who want to invest in Belize. To apply for a temporary residence permit, you need to prove that you are financially stable and that you can invest in Belize at least BZ$500,000. The duration of a temporary residence permit is one year. However, it becomes renewable at the end of its period.

Note: The temporary residence permit is issued to applicants who want to invest in Belize but, due to outside obligations, they can not live there. 

Permanent Residence Permit

A permanent residence permit allows you to stay longer than one year in Belize. However, before applying for a permanent residence permit, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must have lived in Belize for one year with a long-stay visa.
• You must not have left the country for longer than 14 days during a one-year period.
• You need to prove to the Immigration Department that you are financially stable.
• You need to prove that you are not a threat to the Republic of Belize.

Belize Retirement Visa

If you want to retire in a magical country like Belize, you must apply for a Belize Retirement visa. To qualify for a retirement visa in Belize, you must fullfill some of the following criteria:

• You must be older than the age of 45.
• You must prove that you are not a threat to the Republic of Belize.
• You must prove that you have a monthly income of $2,000 or $24,000 annually generated from a source outside of Belize.
• You must be able to stay in Belize for a minimum of 30 consecutive days annually.
